Two Verona young lovers are – thanks to William Shakespeare (1564 – 1616) – perhaps the most famous pair of lovers in the history of world theatre. Their story has undergone numerous theatre and film re-workings over the centuries. As a ballet it was made famous by Sergey Prokofiev as the composer of the timeless and spellbinding music that has been staged by the most famous choreographers of the world. One of the most desirable European choreographers – Natália Horečná – has come up with a distinctive new concept. The creator of unique works that combine classical ballet with contemporary movement vocabulary in his new work points to the effects of lack of understanding and love. Her version of the famous ballet is a grand celebration of love which defies prejudices and hatred.

Romeo and Juliet is a Slovak National Theatre Ballet and Helsinki Finnish National Opera co-production.
