Opera in four acts performed in French

Carmen is an engrossing realistic musical drama of desire, passion, revenge, and death. Don José falls into the ultimately fatal burning passion about the beautiful and untamed Gipsy for whom he gave up all that was hitherto sacrosanct to him and yet he did not manage to keep her fickle favour. Carmen lives outside any established social norms and would rather die than give up her freedom and get forever attached to one man.The romantic music language of Bizet comes hand-in-hand here with the story the realism of which is quite disturbing. For the attitude of Don José to Carmen isn’t called love, but untamed passion that steals away his soul an honour.
