The Brothers Karamazov
Another great literary work staged in the Slovak National Theatre is the novel The Brothers Karamazov written by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky. It is a work in which the author assesses his own attitudes and opinions, religious, social, philosophical and also spiritual. Relations of the respective brothers to their rough, authoritative and dissolute father are decisive and they are defined not only by genetics and lack of love in their childhood, but also a passionate obsession to the same woman and mutual hatred because of the heritage. Differences in characters and impulsive behaviour lead to their murdering the father, followed by defending it at the court. The great fresco of life stories with fascinating psychological background and criminal plot is a philosophical parable about searching both the God and us in the middle of our own chaos and unbreakable vitality.
