In one of his best opera works, Antonín Dvořák used new compositional techniques and applied characteristic motifs, which significantly contributed to a uniform musical flow structure with barely any separate numbers. A typical feature of the Devil and the Kate are brilliantly instrumented dance stylizations that wind through the entire opera: waltz, polonaise, polka or the famous Infernal dance. Dvořák also uses marching, bagpipe, grotesque or mysterious genre stylizations. The music of the work is full of excitement, color and its captivating take-off is enhanced by unique dynamic effects. Folk, hellish and noble scenes are contrastingly seized with an extraordinary theatrical feeling. The new production of Devil and Kate by the young director Zuzana Fischer is a family opera title full of dynamics and movement owing to dancers, acrobats and parkourists.
