The Chamber Concert - SVIRIDOV & PUSHKIN: THE BLIZZARD

Opera

The new SND building, SND Opera Chamber
In the new year, the SND Opera continues with its popular series of Sunday Chamber Concerts, which was created at the initiative of several members of the SND Opera Orchestra. Their common ambition was to pursue chamber music for both traditional and less traditional instrumental combinations alongside their extensive opera and ballet repertoire. The initial instrumental character of the events was later extended to chamber music recitals by soloists of the Slovak National Theatre Opera. A characteristic common feature of the individual concerts was the participation of members of the SND Drama Company, who performed in the programme with a short literary contribution.

The December chamber concert will be themed around the short story "The Blizzard" by Alexander Pushkin. The director Vladimir Basov made a film of the same name based on it, with music composed by the Russian composer Georgy Sviridov. He later adapted musical motifs from the film into an orchestral suite. The concert will feature the Blizzard suite by Artem Petaykin in a chamber arrangement for strings, together with a recital of Pushkin's short story.
