Love and Freedom against Power

Opera in three acts performed in Italian

The new SND building, Opera and Ballet hall
1. 12. 2024 17:00 h - 19:30 h

Giacomo Puccini depicts the world of violence, hatred and selfish passions, as well as that of love “till death do us part” with extraordinary dramaturgical sophistication. His is not a world of high politics or romantic ideals of liberation of man. His is instead the world of psychological detail, complex relationships between grand and minor human stories. In Tosca, adverse circumstances deliver the diva Floria Tosca in the hands of a sadistic secret police chief, the Baron Scarpia. In return for freeing of her lover, the painter Cavaradossi, Scarpia demands utmost price – Tosca’s honour. Puccini depicts the tense dramatic conflict through most captivating musical language. For over a century its emotionality and melodic beauty have been conquering the hearts of audiences worldwide.

The production is suitable for audiences aged 15 and over.
