The SND Opera Studio has prepared another artistic project that is certainly worth checking out. From the wide range of Slovak operatic works available, the Studio’s management has selected Three Roosters, a comic opera by the distinguished composer Milan Dubovský. The composer wrote the work for the SND in the 1980s, but it was ultimately never staged. Now, forty years later, we are proud to present it in its world première as part of the Year of Slovak Music. The composer presents a farce inspired by Honoré de Balzac's La Belle Impéria, adapted into a libretto by Miroslav Horňák. Originally set in medieval France, the plot introduces five characters who differ in social status but not in character: all of them aspire to wealth, fame, and influence, and are driven by a desire for pleasure. The story raises questions of guilt and responsibility that transcend the specific situation and take on a timeless dimension. The opera’s original musical language draws primarily on the expressive means of neoclassicism.
The production is suitable for audiences aged 14 and over.
