The season ticket for the OPERA and BALLET (abbreviation of the series: OB)
The SND Opera will open the 2026/27 theatre season with the SERGEJ LARIN TRIBUTE gala concert, continuing its tradition of events dedicated to outstanding opera vocalists.
At the beginning of the 107th season, we will pay tribute to the exceptional tenor Sergei Larin, a long-standing soloist of the SND Opera, whose 70th birthday would have been celebrated in 2026. Gala Concert Linda Ballová, Peter Berger, Katarína Hano Flórová, Dalibor Jenis, Max Jota, Tomáš Juhás, Veronika Mihálková, Ondrej Šaling and Tamara Morozová. Conductor will be Tomáš Brauner.
The autumn première will mark the return of the classic operetta to the SND Opera repertoire. One of the greatest operetta classics of all time returns to the stage – THE CSÁRDÁS PRINCESS by Emmerich Kálmán. The new production is being prepared by the director Ján Ďurovčík, who will imbue the work with a grand theatrical scale, energy, and contemporary dynamism. The musical direction will be in the hands of conductor Konstantin Ilievsky. Audiences can look forward to an evening filled with grace, dance, emotion, and timeless operetta melodies that demonstrate why The Csárdás Princess remains synonymous with the golden age of operetta to this day.
The second SND Opera première of the season will be Arrigo Boito's monumental opera MEFISTOFELE, inspired by Goethe's Faust. It presents the legendary dramatic conflict between good and evil, desire, knowledge and temptation, dominated by the charismatic figure of Mephistopheles. Boito's score blends monumental choral scenes with lyrical intimacy and gripping drama to create a unique theatrical experience. The new production will be directed by Pavol Smolík, with the musical preparation by conductor Jaroslav Kyzlink. Audiences can look forward to a compelling operatic evening filled with striking imagery, philosophical questions and music that moves between heavenly grandeur and dark irony.
In the 2026/27 season, the SND Ballet will present a new production of Tchaikovsky's "Symphony of a Childhood", THE NUTCRACKER. Closely associated with the Christmas season, one of the world's most beloved ballets will return in a classical choreographic interpretation by Nina Poláková and Jakob Feyferlik. The Christmas adventure of young Clara, rescued from the Mouse King by an army of toy soldiers led by the Nutcracker, will be enhanced by Pavel Juráš's spectacular stage design. The Nutcracker will be conducted by Peter Valentovič.
The beauty of the human body, dance as a means of communication, and boundless choreographic imagination are at the heart of the new mixed programme BODY LANGUAGE, which the SND Ballet will première in spring 2027. Continuing the company's established artistic vision, the evening brings together works by world-renowned choreographers representing a range of dance styles. Fascinating visual imagery, expressive physicality, inventive stage composition and performances by the soloists and artists of the SND Ballet promise an outstanding celebration of dance.
The final ballet première of the season will be the fifth edition of the successful FASHION BALLET project. This popular stage format brings together contemporary fashion and professional dance while providing an artistic platform for the creation of original works. The programme will feature four new dance miniatures created by Slovak choreographers, designers and composers.
The Season ticket for the News in Drama Theatre (abbreviation of the series: DN) DRAMA NEWS
Theatre is a place of imagination, magic and reflection, where the world is mirrored through the rich possibilities of different genres. It is a world where anything is possible, revealing with anticipation even those secrets we would otherwise never confess. It creates unexpected artistic encounters that result in exciting theatrical surprises.
It often gives voice to what we can no longer express, reinterpreting historical events through new perspectives. It reminds us that our own story need not be unique or solitary, for someone may have lived something similar, recorded it, and made it easier for us to understand with the benefit of distance. Love and sudden loss, unexpected defeat and unconventional desire, modest dreams and great history, painful failures and joyful, courageous reflections on what it means to be human.
All of this can be found in the new productions of the 2026/27 season. The season will feature seven productions, each marking a different first. We also have two surprises in store. We will pay tribute to Slovak and international classics, explore social issues as well as the world of theatre and its purpose, and take a fresh look at folklore and the possibilities of poetry on stage. Productions by Slovak playwrights from across different historical periods will form one of the season's defining themes. Based on Jonáš Záborský's documentary novella Hlovík among the Rebellious Crowd, the production recounts the compelling story of a priest threatened by a revolutionary mob who ultimately found the strength to forgive and help. Directed by Mariana Luteránová, the production combines music and drama in a moving exploration of courage.
František Švantner's monumental novel Life Without End I will receive its first stage adaptation, tracing the life of its heroine Paulínka through the First World War, the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the economic crisis. Directed by Roman Polák, the production is conceived as a theatrical serial.
Inspired by Slovak lullabies, the original contemporary stage composition Sweet Dreams – Insomnia Slovaca by Jozef Koleják will be directed by Alena Weisel Lelková. Generations of mothers have preserved in these lullabies their fears for their children and their hopes for the future, which we now transform into a music-theatre production.
Co-produced with the Drama Company of the National Theatre Prague, The Circle of Loners concludes the cycle by exploring the works of Slovak and Czech poets. Directed by SKUTR, it asks what power poetry can still hold in today's world.
In Woyzeck, we examine the complex mechanisms of human decision-making and how social pressure and the desire to survive at any cost can lead to personal tragedy and the loss of humanity. Anna Davidová's production combines grotesque poetics with extraordinary theatrical dynamism.
The adaptation of Les Misérables, one of the great works of world literature, explores guilt, punishment and revolution at the crossroads of two historical epochs. Dávid Paška directs this large-scale production, which examines whether Europe has ever truly achieved the promises of the Revolution: liberty, equality and fraternity.
Shakespeare's final play, The Tempest, often regarded as his artistic testament, will be directed by the acclaimed Croatian director Anica Tomić as a magical theatre-within-the-theatre. Enter a world of dreams, magic and theatre, where meaning and fulfilment can be rediscovered.
