Libretto by Laura Olivi after Carlo Goldoni's play

The new SND building, Opera and Ballet hall
A contemporary and joyful tribute to the serious four-hundred-year-old opera genre by Ľubica Čekovská. The libretto, freely based on Carlo Goldoni's Impresario of Smyrna, was adapted by Laura Olivi. In a brilliant and modern story, the singers compete for a role at the Impresario Dotcom theatre, performing under the names of their characters from various operas (Orfeo, Olympia, Carmen, Violetta and Tamino). They are welcomed by a greedy agent, Conte Lasca, who puts them all up in a hotel suite. The singers complain vehemently about this undignified treatment yet try to keep the necessary composure for the audition in front of the impresario Dotcom. However, the audition brings unexpected challenges…

The pleiad of excellent singing and acting performances by local and guest soloists is part of Elisabeth Stöppler's clever directorial concept, which communicates perfectly in contemporary language, and Alice Meregaglia's fresh musical staging, in which the chamber orchestra of the Slovak National Theatre Opera truly shines.
