Schedule of performances
Two faces of Puccini's genius—a moving tragedy and a brilliant comedy in a single operatic evening. Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi were written as part of the celebrated Il trittico, premièred at the Metropolitan Opera in New York on 14 December 1918. Suor Angelica tells the intimate, emotionally charged story of a woman who conceals a painful secret behind convent walls. Gianni Schicchi takes us to thirteenth-century Florence, where a quarrel over an inheritance sets off a superb comedy of intrigue, unexpected twists and situational humour. The two contrasting one-act operas are bound together by Puccini's exceptional feeling for the theatre, for melody and for human emotion. The new production is presented by the SND Opera Studio.
Running time is indicative, as the dress rehearsal is still due for the production.
