Rastislav Ballek
He studied philosophy and sociology at Comenius University, later theatre directing and dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts and the State Higher Theatre School in Krakow. In 1999-2001, he was employed at the SNP Theatre in Martin as a director, since 2002 as a director, artistic director and dramaturg at the Municipal Theatre in Žilina, since 2006 as a director at the Arena Theatre. He has collaborated with several Slovak and Czech theatres. He has been nominated for the best director award twice in the Dosky poll. The Dosky Award for the best production of the 2004/2005 season went to the production Tiso, staged by the Arena Theatre from a script and directed by R. Ballek. At the Slovak National Theatre Opera, he successfully staged the opera Coma by contemporary composer Martin Burlas, which was his opera debut.
