The scenic cantata Carmina Burana by the German composer Carl Orff is one of the most famous musical works. In it, the composer built on Richard Wagner’s ideas of the “total work of art”, seeking to create a concept of theatrum mundi (theatre of the world) that unites music, movement and speech. The choreography to this thrilling music is by Edward Clug, one of today’s most in-demand choreographers. Through it, the evolution of life unfolds on stage in a flow of dance images. The stage picture is dominated by a circle, which serves as the starting impulse for the dancers—beginning and end, simplicity and perfection. Carmina Burana offers a visually clean and hypnotically energetic experience of music and dance combined.
