An original stage composition inspired by Slovak folk lullabies. Generations of mothers have woven reflections of their own lives into these songs: the hopes they hold for their children and the fears they have about what the future may bring. Certain motifs recur in them, sometimes with greater, sometimes with lesser intensity, as if they were the neuralgic points of our cultural identity – something we are given as part of our inheritance from the very moment we hear our first lullaby. In Sweet Dreams, five contemporary stories, at once comic and poetic, invite us to consider whether the fears and anxieties hidden in these centuries-old songs might still be driving the way we think about ourselves: what we are constantly dreaming about in our country – and, conversely, what so often keeps us awake at night.
Running time is indicative, as the dress rehearsal is still due for the production.
Première June 12, 2027
