The disabled people we see in films and literature are most often portrayed as innocent victims – this also applies to the blind. Some might think that they just sit around and suffer all day long. But the life of a blind or visually impaired person can be just as entertaining, absurd, fulfilling, or embarrassing as anyone else's. They want to love, work, enjoy themselves, and sometimes behave like jerks—even among the blind, there are obnoxious people.
Daniel can also be considered such a man, who does not hesitate to play with women's emotions by telling them a touching story about losing his sight in order to get them in bed. He doesn't let his lack of sight bother him and enjoys life to the fullest. He performs in hotels, seduces women, and likes to brag about his conquests to his friends.
Anna, on the other hand, cannot come to terms with her loss of sight. She perceives it as an injustice and (literally) sees no meaning in her life anymore. She tries to find comfort in God, but she cannot overcome her own bitterness. Could these two people possibly understand each other? What starts as a silly idea after a few glasses of wine ultimately changes both of their perspectives on their own lives.
The Cheeky Eyeless is an absurd comedy about the lives of blind people, created in collaboration with the Slovak National Theatre and the Zrakáč Theatre.
The production is suitable for audiences aged 15 and over.
Running time: 1 hour 30 minutes, no interval
