On the occasion of the milestone anniversaries of the soloists of the Slovak National Theatre Opera in 2026, a curated collection of photographs has been created to honour the exceptional artists who have shaped Slovak operatic culture. These rare visual documents open a window into the memory of the SND Opera — a memory of voices, faces, gestures, and staging poetics that have left a lasting imprint on the artistic consciousness of the theatre and its audiences.
The exhibition brings together portraits and stage photographs of living soloists (1st floor) and those no longer with us (2nd floor), whose artistic paths are permanently inscribed in the history of the Slovak National Theatre. Each image bears witness to a specific moment in time — to the aesthetics of a production and the uniqueness of interpretation — and captures an unrepeatable convergence of music, dramatic expression, and the vocalist's personality. Together, the photographs form a mosaic of generations, where continuity of tradition intertwines with the evolution of interpretative approaches and scenic forms.
Milestone anniversaries offer a natural opportunity to look back and express gratitude. They commemorate not only the length and significance of individual artistic journeys, but also the core values on which the SND Opera is built: professionalism, dedication to art, and the ability to resonate with audiences across decades. The exhibition also pays tribute to artists who are no longer among us, yet whose voices and performances endure — in memories, in archives, and in the shared cultural memory of the theatre.
Opera photography thus becomes not only a document of the past, but a living dialogue between generations of artists and audiences. The exhibition invites us to pause, to remember, and to appreciate the continuity of the artistic legacy of the Slovak National Theatre Opera — a legacy shaped by the many outstanding soloists whose milestone anniversaries we commemorate in 2026.
