Saturdays in the theatre - Jazz dance workshop with Dagmar Puobišová

Other

Jazz dance workshop for children and young people aged 12-15.

The new SND building, Opera and Ballet hall
17. 2. 2024 11:00 h - 13:00 h
Jazz dance has its roots as far away as Africa, where the local people could dance with their whole body accompanied by various drums with a great rhythmic variety. As a dance movement, this dance has its home in the USA, where it developed alongside the musical genre of the same name - jazz music.

Here, it has evolved from the environment of folk dance halls, where dances such as the Charleston, Swing, Lindy Hop, Jive and many others spontaneously emerged. Influenced by the performance needs of Hollywood and the popular genre of musical film, it made its way to the stages of Broadway's famed musicals.

We will learn to reflect African musical polyrhythms into our bodies, and we will dance all the parts of our bodies in the so-called isolations.

"Jazz is smile," say African-American jazz dancers and choreographers, so bring a good spirit!

The workshop is led by Dagmar Puobišová, a pedagogue at the Academy of Performing Arts and the co-founder of the Bralen Theatre, who specialises in teaching jazz dance technique and dance pedagogy for children and youth. She also worked with the Drama Theatre of the Slovak National Theatre on the production When She Danced and on the film fairy tales Fear-Not and Thomas the Falconer.
