Peter Kováč has been the dramaturge of the SND Drama Theatre for four years since 2014. He was invited to collaborate with Roman Polák, the then director of the SND Drama Theatre, with whom he participated in the conception of recent successful drama seasons at the SND. Peter Kováč was, for example, the dramaturge of Mojmír II. or The Twilight of the Empire, which won five theatre awards and other titles, including Arcadia and Sissi (The Escapes of Elizabeth of Austria), to name but a few. The repertoire still includes productions of Mercedes Benz, The Merry Wives of Windsor, The Unimproved Saint, and the children's production of How Lomidrevo Became King.

 

Peter Kováč graduated from the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Film and Theatre Studies. He worked as a dramaturge in several Slovak theatres - J. G. Tajovský Theatre in Zvolen, SNP Theatre in Martin - dramaturge since 1987, artistic director since 1996, and director since 1998. In 2006 - 2008, he was the main coordinator of Martin's candidacy project for the European Capital of Culture 2013 title. In 2008, he was the artistic director of the Slovak Chamber Theatre Martin.

 

Peter Kováč has dramaturgically prepared over a hundred theatre productions in various Slovak theatres. As a screenwriter and dramaturge, he has contributed to several feature films and documentaries, including Robinson and Crusoe (2002), Rumours from Under the Carpathians (2017), Casino.sk (2019), and The Birth of the World of Theatre (2019). He is the author of studies on theatre published in the Slovak Theatre magazine Javisko and theatre bulletins. He has translated more than thirty plays, several books and essays.
