Michal Novinski (1971, Žilina, Slovak Republic) is a Slovak composer. He has composed music for dozens of theatre plays, films and television productions in Slovakia and abroad. He has already received several important awards for his work. In 2010, he was the only Slovak to win the Czech Lion award for the music to the film by the Oscar-winning director Jan Svěrák, KUKY SA VRACIA (KOOKY’S RETURN). In 2009, he received the most prestigious Slovak film award, the Sun in the Net, for his first ever work for a feature film, the original music for Jiří Chlumský's BROKEN PROMISE. He is the author of the music for most of the films of the successful Slovak documentary filmmaker Pavel Barabáš. For his work for theatre, he has won a total of three DOSKY Awards for best incidental music. He regularly composes music for performances of the Slovak National Theatre and the National Theatre in Prague.
Novinský's works include the original music for the award-winning film IN THE SHADOW (direction David Ondříček, 2012), which he wrote with his long-time collaborator Jan P. Muchow and they jointly won the Czech Lion and Czech Film Critics' Awards, as well as the Slovak National Film Award, the Sun in the Net for the film.
