Rainer Krenstetter
Born into a family of dancers in Vienna, the individual was the former principal dancer with the Berlin State Ballet and Miami City Ballet, and now serves as artistic director of the Unblanche ensemble in Tokyo. He studied at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School and then at the Royal Ballet School in London from 1999 to 2000. In 2000, he joined the Vienna State Ballet. From 2002, he performed with the Berlin State Ballet under Vladimir Malakhov’s direction and gradually worked his way up to become a principal dancer. He has been the principal dancer of Miami City Ballet since 2014. In 2020, he was appointed artistic director of the Unblanche ensemble in Tokyo, and a year later, he became deputy artistic director at the Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet in Arizona. After leaving Miami City Ballet, he performed as a guest soloist worldwide. During his studies, he won medals at various international ballet competitions, including events in Vienna, Brazil, and Luxembourg. In 1999, he secured first place at the Prix de Lausanne. Throughout his prolific career, Krenstetter danced principal and solo roles in most of the classical repertoire, including works such as The Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote, Le Corsaire, The Nutcracker, Coppelia, Onegin, The Firebird, Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Sylphide, Cinderella, and La Bayadère. He has performed in ballets by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Vladimir Malakhov, Kenneth MacMillan, August Bournonville, Michel Fokine, Alexei Ratmansky, Roland Petit, Maurice Béjart, Hans van Manen, Uwe Scholz, Clark Tippett, Jiří Kylián, and William Forsythe. Rainer Krenstetter has also appeared as a guest artist with various ensembles and gala evenings across Europe, Australia, North and South America, and Asia. He has served on the jury at international ballet competitions in Rome and Riga and has been a guest teacher at several dance workshops, schools, and ensembles in numerous countries. In 2016, he received the Miami Life Award for Best Classical Dancer and published a book entitled "A Life Spent on Stage, Not Without Tears." In 2023, he was honoured with the Fonteyn Legacy Centenary Award.
