The scenic cantata Carmina Burana by the German composer Carl Orff is one of the most famous musical works. The composer drew on Richard Wagner's concept of the "absolute work of art" in an attempt to create a vision of "theatrum mundi" (theatre of the world) that combines music, movement and speech. The choreography, set to captivating music, was created by Edward Clug, one of today's most sought-after choreographers. The choreography unfolds the evolution of life through the flow of dance images on the stage. The choreographic stage drawing is dominated by the circle, the originating moment for the dancers, the beginning and the end, simplicity and perfection. Carmina Burana's choreographic and staging concept offers a purely visual and energetically hypnotic experience of the merger of music and dance.
