The Sigma Werther production, with its distinctive directorial poetics by the creative duo ODIVO, which has won awards for its work both at home and abroad, explores the contemporary issue of intensifying inner loneliness, often resulting in the radicalisation of young people. The initial inspiration comes from Goethe's novel The Sorrows of Young Werther. The trio of authors has created a suspenseful contemporary play set among young people, featuring elements of a detective story.
An incident occurred at the secondary school. We know that the perpetrator was a boy nicknamed Sigma Boy and that there was a weapon involved. However, what actually happened can only be reconstructed from fragmentary accounts by his classmates, whose perspectives complement, overlap, and sometimes contradict one another. A significant counterbalance to these voices is provided by the character of FF – the girl Sigma was in love with. His unrequited love, self-imposed isolation, and growing estrangement gradually create tension, culminating in him posing a threat to those around him.
The Sigma Werther production is an insight into the world of adolescence. It addresses issues such as loneliness, bullying, unfulfilled love, and overlooked mental health issues among young people. Above all, however, it speaks of a profound desire to be truly seen and heard.
Sigma Werther is a production aimed at teenagers aged 14 and above, their parents, and teachers.
