Monika Hilmerová was born in Bratislava. In 2002, she graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts with a degree in acting. She got her first engagement at the age of sixteen at the Radošina Naive Theatre (1991 - 2003), but she has been acting since an earlier age. At the age of ten, she starred in the film About Fame And Grass.
She first appeared at the Slovak National Theatre in 1997 as Frederika Armfeldt in the production A Little Night Music. She was a member of the SND Drama Company from 2003 to 2006; after a year's break, she rejoined the company in 2008.
However, she has also made guest appearances in the theatres ASTORKA Korzo '90 and Studio L + S. In addition to theatre, she is also active as a film actress; she has appeared in over fifteen and dozens of television films and series.

2001 - Silver Dolphin Award for the best actress in the film The Spring Of Life, Festróia International Film Festival, Portugal
2001 - Art Film Fest International Film Festival Award for his performance in Victims and Murderers
2009 - Literary Fund Award for the portrayal of the character of Ivette Pottiere in Bertolt Brecht's production of Mother Courage and Her Children at the Slovak National Theatre
2012 - Literary Fund Award for the portrayal of Eva Riečná in the TV series Taste of Love
2013 - OTO in the category of Actress
2019 - Igric Creative Award for female performance in the film Duet
