La traviata

Romantic opera in three acts in Italian

with Slovak and English subtitles

The new SND building, Opera and Ballet hall
The novel The Lady with the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas the Younger impressed Giuseppe Verdi, who always sought subjects with dramatic plots and interesting characters for his operas. The result is the immortal opera La Traviata, full of pure and touching music, in which the world of the Italian bel canto is beautifully intertwined with a strong emotional expression.
Violetta has lived and breathed the glamour of Parisian high society, but she has never known love - until she met Alfred. When Violetta abandoned her indulgent existence and began a new life in the countryside, she received an unexpected visit from Alfred's father, who revealed the cruelty of society's double standards and accelerated her tragic end.
Elegant, touching and deeply human, the production directed by Roberto Catalano has won the hearts of our audiences. It is dominated by an emphasis on the intimate nature of the story and a perfectly blended view of a contemporary theatre maker with the best traditions of classical opera.
