Marija Havran

Marija Havran is one of the most original scenic artists in Slovakia. She received her art education in Novi Sad at the Secondary Art School and the Higher School of Fine and Applied Arts in Belgrade. In the years 1991 - 1996, she studied at the Department of Scenography and Costume Design at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava with Prof. Jozef Ciller. She completed her doctoral studies in 2002 at the Academy of Performing Arts with Prof. Milan Čorba. With the exception of a short period as an internal assistant to Aleš Votava at the Department of Scenography and Costume Design and as an external lecturer at the Department of Theatre Science at the Academy of Performing Arts, she works as a freelance scenographer and costume designer. Marija Havran has collaborated with major theatres in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Her profile drama creations include; J. Uličianský Allergy (SND Drama Theatre), V. Klimáček Maria Sabina (GunaGu Theatre), M. Sherman When She Danced (SND Drama Theatre), Sophocles Antigone (National Theatre Brno), W. Shakespeare The Merchant of Venice (National Theatre Prague), W. Shakespeare The Taming of the Shrew (National Theatre Prague), M. Frisch Andorra (Vinohrady Theatre Prague), as well as opera performances; G. Verdi Nabucco (B. Bystrica State Opera), W. A. Mozart The Abduction from the Seraglio (J. K. Tyll Theatre Plzeň), W. A. Mozart Cosi fan Tutte (National Theatre Prague), G. Verdi Macbeth (National Theatre Prague) and elsewhere. She collaborated with directors R. Polák, M. Porubjak, Ľ. Vajdička, V. Strnisko, M. Bendik and recently especially with M. Čičvák. Her work is characterised by a complex perception of artistic unity, emphasising character-forming details.
