Prague-born Tomáš Brauner is one of the most sought-after conductors of his generation. He studied oboe and conducting at the State Conservatory in Prague. In 2005, he graduated from the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts with a degree in conducting. This was followed by a fellowship at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. In 2010, he won the Dimitris Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition in Athens. He was the chief conductor of the Pilsen Philharmonic and principal guest conductor of the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra in Prague, the chief conductor of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra in Zlín and the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK. In addition to these artistic positions, he regularly works with major symphony orchestras and opera houses. In the past seasons, these have included PKF - Prague Philharmonia, Slovak Philharmonic, Philharmonie Südwestfalen, Moscow State Radio Orchestra, Orchestra of Colours Athen, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, Prague Chamber Orchestra, etc.
He began his career as an opera conductor at the Theatre of J. K. Tyl in Pilsen, where he premièred or staged a large number of opera titles. Ponchielli's La Gioconda, Mozart's Don Giovanni, Tchaikovsky's The Virgin of Orleans, Dvořák's Jacobin, Puccini's Turandot, Cile's Adriana Lecouvreur, etc. In 2008 he made his debut at the Prague State Opera with a performance of Verdi's Otello. Massenet's Don Quichotte, Rossini's Il Barbiere di Sevilla, Puccini's La bohème and Tosca, Verdi's Nabucco, Mozart's The Magic Flute and the concert performance of Mignon by Ambroise Thomas followed. At the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava he staged Verdi's Nabucco and Ernani or Gounod's Romeo and Juliet. In 2016, he supervised the musical staging of Ambroise Thomas's award-winning Hamlet. At the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, he conducted Leoš Janáček's opera Jenůfa. He has also been invited to major international festivals such as Bad Kissingen and the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where he performed Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony with the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has also been a guest at festivals such as Prague Spring, IMF Smetana Litomyšl, IMF Český Krumlov.
From the 2024/25 season, he was appointed the Chief Conductor of the Opera SND.
