Dušan Tarageľ was born in Pribylina. He graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in 1971. He then joined the SND Drama Theatre, where he played many diverse characters. His unmistakable acting and vocal expression stood out, especially in works such as Lost Valley, Sváko Ragan, Christmas Waffles or Ťapákovci. In addition to theatre, television films and series, he is also known for dubbing.

1975 – Literary Fund Award for the theatre character Miki in the production of Meridian
1976 – Award for acting at the Karlovy Vary IFF for his performance as Vlado in the production of If I Had a Girl
1995 – Literary Fund Award for the theatre character Uhrík in the production of Before the Rooster Crows
2011 – Literary Fund Award for Lifetime Achievement
