František Kovár was born in Bratislava. After studying at the Academy of Performing Arts, he performed at the Andrej Bagar Theatre in Nitra and the New Stage Theatre in Bratislava. He was a co-founder of the Korzo '90 theatre. Kovár started performing on the stages of the Slovak National Theatre as a student. Since 1987, he has been a member of the artistic ensemble of the Drama Theatre of the Slovak National Theatre. He also worked as a pedagogue at the Academy of Performing Arts and played several film and TV series characters. He has been using his voice in dubbing for years.

2012 - Literary Fund Award for Lifetime Achievement
2015 - Literary Fund Award for dubbing the character Denis in The Iron Lady
2018 - Literary Fund Award for the dubbing of Alan in The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared and for Spangel in the two-part film Maria Theresa
