Božidara Turzonová was born in Sofia. Since childhood, she had attended a drama club, was active in a children's radio company, and played the piano. She went to a high school in Bratislava Old Town known as GAMČA. She studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and successfully graduated in 1963. After graduation, she became a member of the Slovak National Theatre, where she has performed ever since. She is currently a guest performer at the Ján Palárik Theatre in Trnava. In addition, she works in radio, film and dubbing and teaches acting. In the past, she was also the chairwoman of the Art Film Committee and the honorary director of the international film festival Cinematik Piešt'any. Since 1984, she has taught at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, and since 1999, she has been the Dean of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. From 2004 to 2014 she lectured at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius, in 2014 she defended her PhD degree.
She is an actress with a wide range of expression and a variety of theatre and film roles.

1997 – Laureate of the Crystal Wing in the field of theatre and audiovisual arts
1997 – Czech Lion– nomination for the best actress in a supporting role in the film Orbis Pictus
2007 – Literary Fund Award for Lifetime Achievement
2008 – State award of the Pribina Cross of the Second Class by President Ivan Gašparovič
2009 – Jozef Kroner Award for Lifetime Achievement
2012 – Pavel Strauss Award University of Constantine in Nitra
2012 – the DOSKY Award for the best female performance of the season in the production of Pagans
2017 – OTO - The Hall of Fame
2018 – Crystal Rose Award of the Poděbrady Poetry Festival
